Lab-Tested and Proven: The Science Behind the CMCE Lightning Suppressor

When it comes to lightning protection, credibility and performance testing are everything. That’s why the CMCE Lightning Suppressor isn’t just built on innovation—it’s backed by rigorous, independent testing from world-renowned laboratories. One of the most notable tests comes from Instituto Tecnológico de la Energía (ITE), a major energy and electrical engineering research institution based in Valencia, Spain.

Tested to International Standards

In 2018, ITE conducted a full series of tests on the CMCE system, applying UNE 21186:2011 and NF C17-102:2011 lightning protection standards—two globally recognized protocols for lightning suppression devices. Though the CMCE operates using a fundamentally different principle from traditional early streamer emission systems, ITE adapted its rigorous test procedures to verify the CMCE’s function and durability under extreme conditions.

Highlights from the ITE Lab Test

The CMCE underwent a broad range of technical evaluations, including:

  • Corrosion-Resistance Tests: Using salt mist and sulphuric acid atmosphere tests, ITE verified the CMCE's resilience in harsh weather and coastal environments. The results? No visible corrosion—proof of the system’s long-term durability even in extreme conditions.
  • Impulse Current Test (100 kA): The CMCE was subjected to multiple 100 kA lightning impulse currents. Despite high-energy surges, the system maintained structural and operational integrity, with no internal damage or performance degradation.
  • High Humidity and Voltage Endurance: In high humidity and high voltage scenarios, the CMCE again showed superior performance, withstanding stress conditions that simulate real-world lightning strike environments.
  • Mechanical and Marking Integrity: From electro-chemical marking tests to dimensional accuracy checks, the CMCE demonstrated consistency and reliability in its construction—critical for high-performance installations.

Why It Matters

This independent validation from ITE provides peace of mind to engineers, building owners, and municipal planners who demand the most effective protection available. The CMCE isn’t just theoretical—it’s proven in lab environments designed to mimic the most dangerous lightning conditions on Earth.

Global Confidence

The ITE report is just one of many validations the CMCE has received from labs and institutions around the world. From Europe to Latin America, the system continues to gain recognition as a pioneering force in preventing lightning formation, rather than managing strikes after they occur.

Luxury Living, Elevated Olympus Property is a nationally recognized leader in luxury multifamily living, known for managing and developing high-end residential communities across the United States. With a strong emphasis on lifestyle, comfort, and long-term value, Olympus Property has built a reputation for excellence in both service and innovation. One of its standout communities, Olympus Harbour Island , is a prime example of upscale urban living. Located on Tampa’s exclusive Harbour Island, this waterfront property offers resort-style amenities, panoramic city views, and proximity to downtown attractions, all while maintaining an air of refined tranquility. Olympus Harbour Island’s Vulnerability to Strikes The premium location that makes Olympus Harbour Island so desirable also places it at a heightened risk for lightning strikes. Tampa, Florida, is widely regarded as the “Lightning Capital of North America,” experiencing some of the highest lightning strike densities in the country. With Harbour Island’s exposure to open water and its array of tall, modern structures, the community faced real vulnerability to lightning-related damage. These risks included power surges, potential fire hazards, structural damage, and service disruptions—each of which could compromise resident safety, operational integrity, and the luxury living experience Olympus strives to uphold. Game-Changing Protection: CMCE Lightning Suppression To address these concerns, Olympus Property installed the advanced CMCE Lightning Suppressors at Olympus Harbour Island . Specifically, the property is now protected with a CMCE-120 and a CMCE-55 , covering 600,000 square feet total. Unlike traditional lightning rods that attempt to redirect a strike to the ground, the CMCE is engineered to prevent lightning formation altogether. It works by balancing the electrical field and deionizing the surrounding atmosphere, effectively eliminating the conditions necessary for lightning to form. In doing so, the CMCE creates an invisible shield—like a protective dome—over the covered area, ensuring that lightning simply cannot develop or strike within its coverage area. Prevention Over Reaction: The Benefits of CMCE This proactive and preventative approach aligns with Olympus Property’s dedication to forward-thinking solutions and resident safety. By installing the CMCE-120 and CMCE-55 Lightning Suppressors , Olympus Harbour Island has eliminated its exposure to lightning threats, ensuring uninterrupted comfort for residents and safeguarding the property’s critical infrastructure.
